GISB Facts

School:

The GISB is a young, dynamic school in its 12th year.

We are an independent, non-profit, educational institution located in Boston, MA. GISB offers an innovative German/English bilingual program, is one of five such accredited schools in the United States, and is one of three international schools in the greater Boston area.

Mission:

• Create a secure, stimulating and differentiated learning environment.
• Empower students to take responsibility for their own personal and academic growth.
• Create a community in which teachers, parents, and students share responsibility for each other.

History & Future:

Inaugurated in Nov 2001 by the former German President Johannes Rau.
In 2013 the GISB will graduate its first recipients of both the German International Abitur and the Massachusetts High School Diploma.

Curriculum:

Our program combines a German curriculum (Thüringer Lehrplan) with elements of international, American, and Massachusetts educational curricula, so that our students will have the choice  to study at European or American universities.

Following is the most recent subject hour requirement allocation for Grades 1-12 approved by the German Ministry of Education (KMK).

Students:

• 200 students enrolled from Preschool through High School
• International student body - 16 different nationalities.

Accreditation:

By the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and by the German government agency overseeing and financially supporting GISB and more than 140 schools worldwide (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen).
